Recipes
Here are a few recipes for pie irons. You can find many more on the Internet
Instructions
1. Place slice of bread, butter side down, on lower half of cooker. Spoon fruit, or other filling on center of bread.
2. Place second slice of bread, butter side up, on top of filling. Latch handle, trim excess bread if necessary.
3. Toast over a fire or grill until golden brown on both sides. A delicious snack in 6 to 8 minutes.
For delicious warm fruit pies, use your favorite canned pie filling. Place filling between bread slices. Grill until just browned. Sprinkle with confectioners or plain sugar (optional) and serve.
Hot Ham and Cheese
Place slice of bread, buttered side down, into cooker. Place slice of ham and slice of cheese on bread. Add mustard and cover with second slice of bread, buttered side up. Close cooker, latch handles and cook to golden brown.
Tuna Melts
Mix canned tuna fish, chopped pickle, celery or onion and mayonnaise, salt & pepper to taste. Place on slice of bread, buttered side down, and add slice of your favorite cheese and a slice of tomato if desired. Cover with anther slice of buttered bread and grill until hot and toasty.
French Toast
Dip 2 bread slices into egg batter, place both slices into iron, with your favorite fruit preserves between bread slices. Heat until golden brown.
Cornbread
Prepare cornbread mix according to direction on package. Fill a well greased iron about one third with mix. Close, latch handles and bake over very low heat until done.
Eggs, fried potatoes, grilled cheese sandwiches, toasted bagle sandwiches, and more can be cooked in a pie iron. With several going at once, you can cook a whole meal!
A word of caution: the irons get very hot and take a while to cool down. Use caution when refilling a hot iron, and be sure to let them cool completely before stowing them away.
